The UKs Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations require that all retailers of electrical goods assist in delivering a UK-wide collection and recycling system to encourage consumers to recycle old or unwanted electronic equipment.
There are several ways this can be done. You may either take the item to your local council recycling site or you can contact them to arrange a home collection of larger items (there may be a small charge for this service). Alternately you can bring the item in to one of our stores. Please contact us for your nearest location.
Electronic waste is one of the fastest growing waste streams and much of it can be recycled and resources recovered to make new consumer products. All electrical items sold now carry the 'crossed out wheeled bin' symbol.
Unwanted electrical items should not be placed into the normal domestic waste stream. Please contact us if you are unsure what to do with your appliance

About Hughes

Who we are… Hughes was founded in Lowestoft, Suffolk in 1921 by Frank Hughes who trained as an electrical engineer after having served in the Great War. Originally the company rewound industrial electrical motors for Lowestoft\'s fishing fleet but in 1928 Frank bought his first shop. Here he built and sold radios and the family literally lived over the shop for many years. The business was incorporated in 1946 but the following year Frank passed away, leaving his children Peter, Phyllis and Jim to take over the management of the company. To this day, almost one hundred years on.
